Terry Semel Terry Semel was appointed Yahoo!’s chairman and chief executive officer in May 2001. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com)was founded by two Stanford Ph.D. students in 1994. Today, Yahoo! is the No. 1 Internet brand globally and the most trafficked Internet destination worldwide. The Company employs nearly 5,500 people globally and provides 25 world properties available in 13 languages. In 2003 Yahoo! posted earnings of $238 million on $1.6 billion in sales, achieving the highest earnings and revenues in the Company’s history. Yahoo!’s success under Semel prompted Businessweek to name him one of the “Best Managers of 2003.”Prior to Yahoo!, Semel spent 24 years at Warner Bros., where as chairman and co-chief executive officer he helped build the company into one of the world's largest and most creative media and entertainment enterprises. Mr. Semel is credited with transforming Warner Bros. from a $1 billion business to a diversified enterprise generating nearly $11 billion in revenue from diverse businesses in 50 countries. Under Semel, Warner Bros. produced numerous hit films, including The Matrix, Lethal Weapon, Chariots of Fire, Unforgiven, Police Academy, and Stanley Kubrick's final film Eyes Wide Shut. Mr. Semel was also previously president of Walt Disney's Theatrical Distribution division and president of CBS' Theatrical Distribution division. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, Revlon, Inc. and the Guggenheim Museum.
