Richard M. Kovacevich Richard Kovacevich is the chairman and chief executive officer of Wells Fargo & Company of San Francisco, a diversified financial services company. Mr. Kovacevich became president and chief executive officer of Wells Fargo & Company when the company merged with Norwest Corporation in 1998. He was named chairman in 2001. With $391 billion in assets and 139,000 team members, Wells Fargo & Company - www.wellsfargo.com- is one of California’s largest employers and is one of the United States' 40 largest employers. In 2003, Well Fargo ranked fourth in assets, third in market value among its peers, and is the number one retail mortgage lender in the U.S. Before the Wells Fargo-Norwest merger, Mr. Kovacevich held a variety of management positions with Norwest Corporation since 1986. Before joining Norwest, he was group exe cutive and member of the policy committee of Citicorp. He began his business career at General Mills as a planner, moved into the specialty of mergers and acquisitions, and then became a division manager. Mr. Kovacevich is a member of the Board of Directors of Cargill Inc., Target Corporation, and the San Francisco Committee on Jobs; a member of the Board of Governors of the San Francisco Symphony; a member of the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the California Institute of Technology; a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Committee (cyber security) and chairman of the California Business Roundtable. He is past-president of The Financial Services Roundtable and former vice chairman of the American Bankers Council. Mr. Kovacevich is a graduate of Stanford University, where he received his M.B.A. and earned his B.S. and M.S. in industrial engineering.
