Peter Chernin Peter Chernin is the president and chief operating officer of News Corporation and the chairman and chief executive officer of The Fox Group. Mr. Chernin is also a member of the Board of Directors for News Corporation and The Fox Entertainment Group. As president and COO of one of the world’s largest media companies, Mr. Chernin oversees diversified global operations spanning five continents, including the production and distribution of film and television programming; television, satellite and cable broadcasting; the publication of newspapers, magazines and books; and the development of digital broadcasting. Prior to his current appointment, he headed both Twentieth Century Fox Filmed Entertainment and earlier, the Fox Entertainment Group of the Fox Broadcasting Company. He has overseen Fox’s tremendous growth in sports, cable, and general entertainment television programming, as well as worldwide distribution. News Corporation is the leading satellite and cable broadcaster in the United Kingdom, Latin America, Asia and Australia with a collective reach of more than 85 million homes around the world. Prior to his 1996 appointment to president and COO of News Corporation, Mr. Chernin served for four years as chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment. In this role, he oversaw all aspects of the studio’s worldwide feature film production, marketing, and distribution activities. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Chernin was president of the Fox Entertainment Group of the Fox Broadcasting Company. Mr. Chernin joined Fox from Lorimar Film Entertainment, where he served as president and chief operating officer. Earlier, he served as executive vice president, programming and marketing, for Showtime/The Movie Channel Inc. Prior to Showtime, Mr. Chernin held the position of vice president of development and production at the David Gerber Company, where he oversaw more than 100 hours of network television. Prior to that, he was an editor for Warner Books and, earlier, associate publicity director of St. Martin’s Press.
